While an oncologist may deal with different kinds of cancer in general
a ‘Radiation Oncologist’ deals with therapeutic application of radiation energy
and its modifiers and there by manages the disease by destroying the malignant
tissues through radiation.
The patient is asked to lie down on the treatment table and high
frequency of radiation is passed through the cancer cells. Oncologists at Texas uses a technology in
which they need not turn the patient physically, but move the direction of
radiation keeping the patient comfortable and giving him a painless treatment.
If the patient feels any kind of pain or discomfort, he/she may ask the doctor
to switch off the machine.
During the cancer treatment, the patient can lead a normal life and
his family is not susceptible to any kind of radioactivity. For insertion of
internal radioactive sources the patient has to be put in a protective room and
the whole process is carried out in the presence of the oncologist.
The entire treatment is planned by the radiation oncologist; including
the amount of radiation and the total number of days that the treatment would
take for radiation therapy in Texas.
Radiation therapy does have some side effects like itching sensation,
nausea, diarrhea and hair loss, but this is handled by an expert team of
caretakers who minimize it to the least.
